Not necessarily!  Your air conditioner not only maintains temperature but it also removes humidity from the air.  Too big and the AC does not run long enough to remove uncomfortable humidity.   All air conditioners should be sized to the building load.   Air Experts has complete design services, we calculate building load, computer design ductwork and select the proper equipment.

There is a lot more to do than just replace your heatpump, airconditioner or furnace.

1.  Calculate the proper size system using Manual J.

2.  Evaluate the ductwork by measurement of actual conditions or Manual D calculation.  (It does no good to put a high efficiency system on ductwork that blows the air into your attic or crawlspace!)

3.  Select the proper equipment.  Your contractor should be able to prove to you the capacity will meet the Manual J load.   For example, just because a manufacturer "CALLS" a system a 2 ton does not mean it puts out 2 tons of cooling. ( In the Richmond area, a "2 ton" puts out less than 2 tons of cooling. ) Air Experts can and will give you the actual manufacturers ratings for the Richmond climate and operating conditions.
